  1. On the extra fun side, Syrian fighters, recruited allegedly through Turkey, have shown up fighting for Azerbaijan. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/sep/28/syrian-rebel-fighters-prepare-to-deploy-to-azerbaijan-in-sign-of-turkeys-ambition https://www.lexpress.fr/actualite/monde/europe/temoignages-exclusifs-les-mercenaires-syriens-d-erdogan-se-deploient-au-haut-karabakh_2135405.html https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/nagorno-karabakh-clashes-turkey-sends-syrian-mercenaries-into-combat-against-armenians-wz6cqjc57 In the meantime, Azerbaijan has been losing pers
  2. That's a nice way to look at it, until someone breaks into your home. At which point you might protest "I'm poor too" but then poor homes get broken into as well... not to mention that organized burglaries aren't just a function of poverty, but also of professional criminal activity.
  3. colonelcassad.livejournal.com He's also biased, but not strongly to either side in this war. He's in Russian, but google translate should help. It's not exactly high poesy. You can take a look at the following; https://colonelcassad.livejournal.com/6198755.html https://colonelcassad.livejournal.com/6198937.html https://colonelcassad.livejournal.com/6199123.html https://colonelcassad.livejournal.com/6199450.html https://colonelcassad.livejournal.com/6200071.html https://colonelcassad.livejournal.com/6200880.html
  4. San Francisco Residents On Edge Over Rising Number Of Home Burglaries SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — The numbers are staggering and San Francisco residents are now sounding the alarm about the increasing rate of brazen break-ins in the city. A recent example is a video posted on Nextdoor and given to KPIX 5 from one homeowner in the Cow Hollow neighborhood that shows a man trying to break into a house at 1:52 a.m. on August 22. It’s an image that’s creepy, disturbing and has shaken a sense of safety. The homeowner didn’t want his identity revealed, but others say these attempte
  5. I quite enjoyed that. I quite like Dostoevski (The Brothers Karamazov excepted), unlike say Tolstoy, who is tiresome and in my opinion, badly over-hyped. There is a whole two generations of great Soviet novelists that are almost completely unknown in the US, so if you're looking for some good Russian literature, I suggest Sholokhov's The Quiet Don (it's gigantic, the translation is like 4 books instead of one) , Bulgakov's Master and Margarita, Ilf and Petrov Twelve Chairs, and The Golden Calf.
  6. He's an American through and through.
  7. You haven't already? Then you better. There are also 3 excellent prequels by his son, House Artreides, House Harkonnen and House Corrino.
  8. I wasn't fine at any point, at least as far as I can tell. On the subject of dystopia, have you seen San Francisco? It's straight Blade Runner, the new one.
  9. Vote for Dagwood. You know he's a better candidate then anyone from either party currently running.
  10. So it's not just me. Hollywood has been putting out shiny turds one after another...
  11. Thoughts? I'm not sure how I feel about the imagery, or the fact that the main character looks like one of the edgelord teenage heroes from garbage like Divergent or the new Star Wars films. Dune is excellent source material but of course anything can be ruined.
  12. That's my whole point. Capitalism creates oligarchy not through the agency but through the structural factors that lead markets to oligopolize and eventually monopolize.
